POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE IMPACT OF ICT

In the past few decades, ICT has provided society with a vast array of new communication capabilities and these have impacted on the society both positively and negatively.

 

POSITIVE IMPACTS OF ICT

ü    It has made the world a global village, making us know what happens around. It has drastically reduced time and distance.

ü    Crime control: – With ICT, crime can be detected and controlled.

ü    ICT has made it easy to share knowledge and ideas amongst scholars.

ü    ICT made it possible to buy and borrow books from anywhere in the world.

ü    Banking Purposes: – ICT has made it possible for easy withdrawal of money and money exchange in the financial institution.

ü    Point of sales: – used to get purchase

ü    ICT has made it easy for shopping

ü    ICT has made it easy to shirk time and space e.g. skype.

ü    Provision of Holograms- Three dimensioned images of people used at 2008 as elections.

ü    Using Microsoft word and software like Microsoft publisher is that you can change the text mistakes without having to start from the very beginning again.

ü    One can back-up files quickly.

ü    One can crop pictures down accurately.

ü    Using a scanner, one can scan or input pictures from magazines and books to the computer.

ü    One has access to the internet.

ü    One can communicate with people all over the world by sending e-mail letters and documents one can copy pictures from the internet on hard copy (paper) by printing it out on a printer.

ü    One can easily save documents in order not to loose it.

ü    ICT has helped to communicate en-masses i.e. it has aid mass communication through e-mails, e-news letters to a large audience.

ü    ICT has also helped greatly in the communication system of the drabbled. The disabled now have the opportunity to communicate through electronic communication boards and specialized computers software.

ü    It has helped to change the way companies do business. In the banking sector for instance the use of ATM machine easy allocations and money, payments of bills.

ü    It has provided economic opportunity to those in the urban and rural areas.

ü    It has helped to provide private and public services to people both staying in the rural and urban areas.

ü    It ahs also helped greatly in the health services rendered to people.

ü    ICT is one of the resources used in supporting learning.

ü    It allows users to participate in a world in which work and other activities can be accessed to varied technologies.

ü    ICT can be used to find, explore, analyze and present information accurately.

ü    ICT helps users’ quick access to ideas and topics from a wide range of people.

 

 

NEGATIVE IMPACT OF ICT

ü    Addition of social media

ü    Fraudsters

ü    Copying and pasting quantities of information rather than learning it, taking notes correctly and   reference work leading to an ease of plagiarism by students.

ü    It leads to unemployment since with ICT, people are exposed to what machines and faster than human beings and through his people lost job.

ü    With ICT people can adopt more sedentary lifestyle and can lead to physical problems e.g. obesity.

ü    In industries the cost of ICT is expensive to maintain and this may affect the financial growth of the industry.

ü    ICT has caused anti-social behavior among the youths of nowadays.

ü    The use of computer for typing as also caused eye injury as a result of straining the eyes when typing.

ü    ICT has caused lack of specialization and lack of development and reading because of its information overload.

ü    Through the use of ICT, rumours and gossips are being spread fast.

ü    Misunderstanding of messages may occur if the messages being conveyed are not well constructed. That is why face to face communication is better.

ü    ICT has also brought about the eradication of air culture. The youth of nowadays, take in the case of dressing, greeting are now following the steps of white thereby warning their own culture aside.

ü    Doing research might take a while as there might be no network to work with.

ü    Networks can get hacked into.

ü    Shopping online leaves shoppers at risk of online credit and theft.

ü    Viruses can come through the internet damaging the files in your computer.

ü    Some software cannot be operated by some generations and people may find it difficult to learn.

ü    People start to rely only on computer and target about the manual of doing things.

ü    Work sometimes does not look exactly like what you want it to look like.

ü    Prolonged use of computers cause body ache.

ü    Time Waste: – ICT causes time waste in the sense that youths devote most of their time to it thereby lacking in other areas of development.

ü    ICT causes moral degradation deprivation in that young people use ICT for immoral acts instead on a more profitable thing.

ü    It is expensive and needs a lot of devotion to time.
